ASSAM CELEBRATES I – DAY BY DEFYING BANDHS AND BOYCOTT CALL

Webdesk, TNI Guwahati, 16th August, 2015: Various Government administrations of the various North Eastern states of India felt a sigh of relief after the Independence Day passed away peacefully yesterday. The routine strike and boycott calls were given by the underground outfits here like the previous years following the security was tightened especially the insurgency prone states. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi hoisted the national flag at the national flag at the official venue for the celebrations at the Veterinary College ground in Khanapara area of Guwahati. The people of Assam braved militant threats to gather in large numbers across the state to celebrate the country’s 69th Independence Day on Saturday. The underground factions, who called for strikes and boycott on Saturday were United Liberation Front of Asom (Ulfa) and National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB). They had called for a boycott of the Independence Day functions and called a general shutdown on Saturday.
